A P awn Story: Privately owned, many pawns offer various items and services. In the United States a large number of pawn shops exist. A consumer making plans to pawn an item and visit  a Pawn shop should remember pawn shops require identification and a contact number. Essentially, a consumers should use discretion in deciding whether or not to pawn an item. A typical pawn shop allows consumers to pawn different items based on the condition of the item. Usually, thirty days remains and considered the maximum number of days allowed by most pawns. A Customer abdicating a item to a pawn shop should not expect to receive the full purchase amount of an item. Furthermore, many of the items consumers consider pawning often the value of the item over time has depreciated, for example, a consumer that purchase an car and drives the car off the dealers lot, incontrovertibly, the car automatically depreciates in value;likewise, with an items to be pawn, most Pawnbroker view items to be pawned in the same manner. Moreover, a consumer should not compare pawn shops should abut visit different pawns to receive the best offer. As a result of pawns being privately owned and operated, the pawnbrokers decides the valueof an individual item. Lastly,a pawn shop gives consumers an alternative during financial emergency. Instead of selling an item, consumers presented with quandary or emergency item could pawn items based on the item the age and condition of the item. Anyway, most customers that pawn selected items often plan to only pawn the selected item at short length of time. Besides pawning an item, pawn shops also sell an array of items. Certainly, pawning an item should be a last resort.

To Pawn or Not to Pawn a quandary I encountered March of 2009, a dilemma that ultimately lead me to a local pawn shop. In fact, while working to update cacjohnson website; I eventually pawn an electronic item at maximum number of days allowed by most pawns. The following month ,instead of picking up the item or selling the item,I extend the pawn for another thirty days at an additional charge. Although, not all visit to a pawn shops end with happy endings, incontrovertibly,I would describe my pawn experience as pleasant ,the visit dis-spell many of the myths about pawning and definitely,a learning experience .

What's in a Pawn? Normally, an average consumers visit to a pawn often results in the consumer quickly discovering everything but the kitchen sink o,astonishingly, located at a pawn shop.

Exactly, What's in a a Pawn? Pre-owned items in good condition such as,Computers, Lap Tops,Cameras, Televisions , DVRS, VCRS and Jewelry all of the items pawn shops offers to the the public at an discount value. Plus , a pawn shop offers a variety of items with different makes, models, sizes and colors.

ACME pawn website sums it up best “...

"...You would have to visit dozens of different retail stores to find all the different types of merchandise found in a single pawn shop. Jewelry, silver, clocks, stereos, sporting goods, cameras, musical instruments, tools, guns, TV's, computers, bikes, coins, appliances are just a few of the things to be found in the pawn shop...This makes comparison shopping a breeze. You don't have to drive to several different electronics stores to find just what brand and model fits your particular needs. You can comparison shop with all the different things a pawn shop sells.”

Shopping online could save you more....In 2009,American consumers proclivity to visit large shopping malls or outlet stores remains a favorite past time for many consumers. Clearly, throughout the years, American consumers preferred shopping and visiting department stores directly. Primarily, the predilection to shop at large department stores, shopping malls, and outlet stores appealed to consumers because of the myriad of products available in the malls such as apparel, electronics, cosmetics shoes, books, and toys. As a result of the large crowds shopping malls and outlet stores attracted on the weekends and during holidays, builders with support of stores owners built more malls and outlet stores. While consumers grew a penchant and became accustom to shopping at malls, owners of shopping malls to meet the demands of consumers added food courts . Specifically, the large department stores, shopping malls and outlets especially appealed to teens who viewed the malls as social gathering place outside of the classroom. Likewise, singles, another group of visitors known to frequently shop at malls, shopped at the malls for reasons similar to teens. Although, American consumers penchant towards shopping in stores directly continues,a vast number of consumers utilize online shopping as alternative way to shop. Online shopping allows consumers to eschew queues at department stores and outlet malls. Consumers shopping online for the first time often vocalize concerns about privacy, security, and identity theft. Typically,in many instances, the initial process of making an online purchase creates a nebulous in the thoughts of first time online shoppers. For some consumers several pieces of important personal information often precludes the ability to purchase items online; for example, consumers without a credit card or debit card delay and stymies the process of making purchase online. Conversely, while other consumers experience doubt and disbelief at the ease of online shopping, consumer credit protections agencies recommend consumers use discretion when shopping online. An unerring credit card and debit statement requires a consumer to review statements for discrepancy. Eventually, a consumer that successfully makes a first time online purchase inevitably utilizes the internet to make other purchases. Furthermore, consumers that perceive online shopping as an arduous task and too risky, in many instances, the consumer relaying the trepidations of naysayers, frequent mall shoppers, inexperienced internet users. Advanced internet users understand first and foremost that shopping online requires the same amount of awareness from the consumer, shopping online requires a consumer to use the same discretion online that they use in the actual store. In comparison to shopping online and visiting department stores directly, one of the major differences of shopping online the absence of sales associates and long lines. Moreover, the histrionics of some consumers concerns of privacy, security and safety of making purchase online primarily stems from lack of use and inexperience. Normally, most online purchases requires consumer to be circumspect. Admittedly, the recent economic recession has taught more and more consumers how not to be improvident but frugal. In conclusion, today on the internet retailers offer a myriad of products similar to large shopping malls and outlet stores. Astonishingly, many of the department stores located on the internet advertise special offers for first time online shoppers. An alternative way to shop, consumers quickly discover the tantamount of products offered from different department stores on the internet. Online shopping allows consumers to receive discounts, clearance items and percentages off items just for being a online shopper. C'est combien en tout?

Often costly and expensive, the standard 35mm cameras required that consumers purchase different types film. Subsequently, the standard 35 mm camera captured photos  on negatives that allowed consumers to develop and make reprints only at photo labs. Consequently, photos stored on negatives did not allow consumers to develop prints expeditiously. Not surprisingly, consumers waiting in queues to develop or receive photos often exuded attitudes of petulance. Often, imperceptibly, the process of recovering and devloping  pictures taken on the standard 35mm camera caused consumers to become exasperated while searching for negatives to develop at  a photo lab. Especially, consumers that did not keep negatives  of photos in a designated location, without the negatives of the pictures photographed, unfortunately, the standard 35 mm camera did not allow consumer to develop or recover pictures without the negatives. Remarkably, the advancement in modern technology has alleviated some of consumers worries about recovering and storing personal photographs with the invention of digital cameras.

From its rudimentary beginnings in 1993,the world wide web “the internet” during its inception received harsh scrutiny by federal agencies and users. Specifically, consumers trepidations concerning privacy, and security of personal information stored on the web became the concentric and primary concern expressed by many of its users. Despite concerns of just how private and secure personal information entered and stored on the web remained from identity theft ,the number of internet users continued to grow. As the internet expanded and attracted more users its developers created software to reduce, and decrease internet piracy, identity theft, and viruses. Nonetheless, the federal government and internet users consensus unanimously concurred the advantage of being able to quickly access large amounts information varying from books, film, music, and music videos out weighed the threat of a virus or a computer hacker. Today many of the initial concerns presented during the development and expansion of the internet still exist but not on a grand scale as when the internet first launched in 1993. Amazingly new innovations along with the development of the world wide web has evolved the way consumers purchase and listen to music over the years. As a matter of fact, today in 2009,most consumers listen to music that is digitally stored on compact disc often abbreviated and mainly called a cd by American consumers. Furthermore, the transition of music being stored on records often referred to as LP's, and tapes has all but been replaced by cd's. During the gestation period of producing , and storing sound, consumers purchased records, tapes, and cds at music stores located in malls and outlet malls. Remarkably, today the world wide web, “the internet” allows consumers to purchase cds online. Nevertheless, usually next to the deposit and withdrawal counter are deposit and withdrawal slips immediately placed next to the slips are the financial Instutions brochures. After making my transactions, I walk over to  the deposit and withdrawal counter to pick up a brochure, then, I place the brochure in my handbag to only leave it in the hand bag for some days before taking the brochure out of my handbag and placing it in a folder.

Recently, I was informed about the different types Certificates of Deposits at my current financial institution. At the time, I was looking for a way to save money to buy a dell lap top, I entered the bank;  requested to speak with a financial advisor, a few minutes later, I was seated  in the office with an financial advisor who explained and showed to me the different types of Certificates of Deposits in the financial institutions  brochure. In years past, I had not used the option of a Certificate of Deposit as method for saving stemming from the fact I felt it was out of my grasp; however, after talking with the financial advisor, I open and purchased my first Certificate of Deposit. Reflecting on previous times I have entered the bank and not given a second thought about the money that I could have saved through financial empowerment does not exude the confidence or intellect of a young woman with two degrees and lots of work experience;acrimoniously, my youth might have proceeded me but now that I am older I have gained more insight  as well as esteem for building my financial health. Therefore; I missed an opportunity to the road of financial health, first and foremost, because I did not read the brochure thoroughly and secondly because I did not ask to speak with a financial advisor out of lack financial insecurity.  After, the financial advisor explained the different types of cD's and based on what I could afford and would not miss without being pernicious  to myself I open a simple cD plan.

Recommended for all ages a Certificate of Deposit is a great gift to give during the holidays. Besides the recommended one educational toy for infants and toddlers, during the holiday seasons, a certificate of deposit is a great way to plan for your child's financial future. Opening&Closing an Checking Account

C'est combien? Opening and Closing a checking account/How to keep a checking account open/&How to keep money in the bank .

A BANK JOKE: How do you keep money in a checking account? Keep a quarter in the checking account for Quarterly earnings.

JavaScript: Financial online banking is available for consumers at most banks . Online banking is great way for consumers to monitor their accounts build financial empowerment.

Opening &Closing Checking Account:

Opening a checking account can be as easy as 1-2-3(counting numbers). New perspective account holders must bring to the financial institution of their choice photo identification, social security card, and at least the minimum amount required by the financial institution to open the account. Usually, most banks require a minimum of $50.00 to $100.00 to open the initial checking account. Also, new account holders should be aware of the various different checking accounts because deposits amounts could vary. Two of the most popular checking accounts: Free checking, and Student checking for college students, require only the minimun deposit and no required amount to keep the accounts open. Previously, I stated in a recent article located on the MVP page that in my thirty seven years (age) I have had several checking accounts; one the most important habit/(task) for keeping a checking account open beside maintaining the minimum monthly balance would be keeping up with the check registry,  making sure to write down atm withdrawals and monthly automatic deductions. In most instances, closing an account can be just as easy as opening the account.  Closing a checking at some banks could result in additional fees; for example, an administrative fee could be added to the account before the bank closes the account. As in my particular case, the account I closed with the Bank of Wachovia became overdrawn because of an automatic deduction. A few days later, after the account was closed, I acquired administrative fees.

Keeping a Checking account Open:

1. Keep the minimum amount required in the

    checking account

2. Link checking account to a savings or cD account in  case the account becomes overdrawn to avoid additional  fees.

3. Keep up with check registry

4. Write down all Atm withdrawals

5. Make sure all automatic deductions have cleared.

6. Finally, use the checking for purposes intended (Rent,  Groceries, Charity Donations, or car payments)

Reurns& Exchanges

All sales final, Exchanges only, No Returns&Echanges: Cell phones, Computers, Lap tops, Jeans, Swimwear, Lingerie, Jewlery, Household items, from Frozen foods to Can Goods.

Throughout the United States consumers are known to make frequent returns during the holiday seasons. In retail, retailers have found that seasonal items have the highest volume of returns and exchanges. Seasonal items are items associated with a particular holiday such as, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, 4th of July, and Valentine’s Day. Seasonal items have the highest volume of return and exchanges because most often consumers are not buying the product for themselves but for family, friends and coworkers. In the United States consumers  can return or exchange just about anything with a receipt and proof of purchase.

Recently, I went to a Radio Shack in the area I currently reside and bought a new Virgin Mobile cell phone, the cell phone I purchased was not the cell phone I had intended to buy. On this particular day, the cell phone I wanted was out of stock but for business reasons I had to up date my cell phone. Eventually, I ended up buying an inexpensive cell phone with the same brand name, and as usual before leaving the store I asked the salesperson for the receipt. When I purchased the new cell phone, I also bought some Trident gum. While in the store I briefly skimmed the receipt and read “All sales final, no returns and exchanges.”  A few days later, I returned to Radio Shack to see if the cell phone I had intended to buy was in stock. While looking for the cell phone, I stopped and took the time to ask the salesperson about Radio Shacks return and exchange policy. Apparently, I did not read the receipt carefully and discovered that the printed statement “All sales final, no returns and exchanges” applied to the gum and not the cell phone.Over the past two years, I have made several returns and exchanges. Often, I like to make sure that before I leave the store the item or product I am about to purchase is something I know I will keep. Many times when I do make returns or exchanges, most likely, the sizes are not the right fit or the colors do not match any thing I previously purchased, even worse the colors or clothing are no longer in style. In some instance, I will keep certain items of clothing if I feel that the item will return in style the next season, also I will having certain items tailored if tailoring the item cost less than the original item. For example, I recently ordered by catalog from an company called Blair a pair of pants. The pants I ordered, I really wanted them but when they arrived to my place of residence they were too big, instead of asking for my money back, I made an exchange for a coral top to match a skirt previously purchased. Yes, returns and exchanges can be a hassle for retailers and consumers. However, I am firm believer if I purchase a product or item and it’s not the quality I feel it should be for the amount of money that I have spent then I will return or exchange the item. I would not call myself a frequent returner; as a former salesperson, I understand the difficult other salespersons might have in working towards sales goals and making monthly quotas. Most importantly, I understand for a salesperson working on commission returns and exchange becomes life or death. On the other hand, a consumer on a budget having to make returns and exchanges  becomes just as irrated and annoyed by not being able to find quality products or items for their hard earn money. All stores do not have the same return policy; therefore, it is very important for consumers to read the receipts before they leave the store. Most retail and chain stores will allow consumers up to fifteen to thirty days to make returns but the item must be accompanied with the receipt or proof of purchase.

C’est Combien: Prepaid Credit Cards

“The key to success with your new account is to take advantage of the monthly reports to the four major credit Bureaus. With proper account maintenance and on time monthly payments on all your accounts, your credit history may be re-established”

Prepaid Credit Cards& Gift Cards:

Minimum monthly payments, late fees, over the limit fees, a delinquent account, and a default account are all terms commonly used with unsecured credit cards, secured credit cards, ATM cards, and debit cards. Consumers can avoid monthly payments and many of the fees associated with these cards by purchasing a Prepaid Credit Card.

Wal Mart, Walgreens,CVS,Kmart, Rite Aid, and Family Dollar all carry prepaid credit cards and gift cards. Consumers should not misconstrue Gift Cards with Prepaid Credit Cards.Gift Cards name the specific store, restaurant, and location where the card can be used i.e( Target, Burdines, Applebee’s, Chili’s, Wal Mart and JcPenny), whereas, Prepaid credit cards are accepted at millions of locations that display the Mastercard and Visa logo’s. Consumers can conciliate their worries by using prepaid credit cards instead of using unsecured or secured credit cards. The proclivity of consumer’s attitudes towards unsecured credit cards and secured credit cards often varies from being effervescent when receiving the first credit card to flabbergasted from the first purchase, and ending with a petulant attitude after receiving the first bill. The pensive thoughts some consumers hold towards unsecured credit cards and secured credit cards trace back to their rudimentary existence of  preconceived ideas about money from axioms embedded in them as young adolescent. All Consumers and College Students have the potential to become sagacious when learning to adjust their monthly budgets to fit with in the confines of their income. Consumers can free up money.

Freeing Up Money:

ATM, Debit Cards, Unsecured Credit Cards, Secured Credit Cards, and Prepaid Credit Cards all carry an inexorable fee; however, Consumers are given the choice of freeing up money by choosing a card which will fit any budget set by the consumer. Prepaid Credit Cards are expedient, great for college students and eliminates excessive fees. Unlike unsecured credit cards, and secured credit cards Prepaid Credit Cards are clear, unambiguous, and direct in terms of applicability and use.

Unsecured/Secured Credit Cards:

Unsecured credit cards do not require a deposit; all most all unsecured credit cards offer consumers the following:

-ability to access cash in emergencies at ATM and Financial Institutions throughout the state.

-acceptance at millions of locations worldwide.

-ability to reserve rental cars, and hotel rooms

                                                                   _______Tribute

Unsecured credit cards are cards that  extend a certain amount of dollars that may be specified or unspecified to the consumer. The credit limits offered to consumers are based on the consumers credit score. Unsecured credit cards are insured by credit lenders. In order for a consumer to be consider for a line of unsecured credit a consumer must apply directly to credit card companies.

Another alternative for consumers who have problems obtaining an unsecured line of credit are secured credit cards. A secured credit card requires a deposit from the applicant. The deposit amount required of the applicant is usually between $100.00 to $300.00.After the applicant sends in the required deposit, a savings account is open for credit (overdraft) protection. Many of the requirements for a secured credit card are the same for an unsecured credit card, in other words, the primary difference between a unsecured line of credit  and a secured line of credit are that secured credit cards require a deposit.

The Application Process:

An applicant must meet the requirements established by credit card companies/lenders. Before the credit card company issues a credit card to the consumer, the issuer must verify certain information for example the credit lenders will ask the applicant to verify their age, name, address, mothers maiden name and home phone number. Nearly all credit lenders  will request credit reports from the three credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union).Applicants are approved based on their credit score and rating. At the discretion of the credit card companies/lenders they may either issue a line of credit to the applicant or state reasons for not being able to extend a specific amount to credit to the applicant. Consumers can avoid the application process by purchasing a Prepaid credit card with the MasterCard or Visa logo’s.

Free Credit Reports&Credit Scores

Cest Combien?

Dispelling the myth about those advertisments offering free credit reports and free credit scores. What consumers should know about too many frequent inquires on their credit report? Equifax, Trans Union, and Experian are all credit reporting agencies, before extending a line of credit; many lenders will request credit reports from one of the following credit reporting agencies. Each year, consumers are allowed at least one free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies. In order for consumers to receive, a free credit report, the consumer must make a written request to the credit reporting agency of their choice. A photo copy of the consumer’s drivers’ license or state identification, social security number, and proof of residence must accompany their written request for their credit reports. Primarily the purpose of credit reporting agencies are to keep track of consumers  borrowing habits. Credit reporting agencies were established to monitor a consumer credit history. In fact, the information found in a consumer’s credit report helps lenders and credit companies determine the credit worthiness of the consumer. As a result, consumers whose credit reports show adverse information, for example, too many inquiries, too many delinquencies, or too many opened accounts could cause the consumer to be denied additional credit and charged high interest rates on existing, accounts.Likewise, consumers could also be charged excessive interest rates on cars, appliance, electronics, and homes because of poor credting rating. Nevertheless, all consumers regardless of their score and rating should monitor their credit regularly for inaccuracies. Debt Consultation Companies highly recommend that consumers review their credit regularly, each year, to make sure the information written in consumers credit report are accurate. Recently, I made a written request to two of the credit reporting agencies for my credit report. Usually, I will request for my credit report at least once a year. This year it was very important that I requested a credit report because I have a vested interest in knowing what is on my credit report as an Entrepreneur/minority business owner. In many instances , consumers working to improve their credit history maybe only a few steps away including myself. Credit counselors advise consumers:

---to know what is in their (3) three credit reports

---to make an honest effort to resolve any past due accounts

---to check for inaccuracies in their reports

---to reduce their number of accounts…..

Furthermore, credit reporting agencies also inform consumers that adverse information may remain on their credit report for up to (7) seven years. Whereas, bankruptcies are reported for (10) ten year (http://www.creditwatch.equifax.com) To conclude, another credit reporting agency states consumers can expect to find the following on their credit reports:

“---potentially negative items or items for further review”

“---accounts in good standing”

“---History of their account balances”

“---Request for their credit history”
